ToggleStrong US Labour Demand Meets Political and Market Uncertainty
Wednesday begins with markets trying to price several major forces at the same time.
US labour demand remains stronger than expected.
September JOLTS Job Openings increased to approximately 7.5 million, above the roughly 7.1 million level markets had expected.
That matters because last week’s data had already shown strong GDP growth, elevated PCE inflation and resilient manufacturing activity.
The stronger JOLTS number therefore reinforces the argument that the Federal Reserve may still have room to raise interest rates again in December.
Markets currently continue to price a high probability of another 25-basis-point Fed increase.
But the Dollar has not strengthened significantly.
Instead, the Dollar Index has slipped toward the 101.7 area.
The reason is that monetary policy is no longer the only major force moving markets.
US election results have changed the political outlook.
Democrats are projected to regain control of the House of Representatives, while control of the Senate remains unresolved as several important races continue to be counted.
Markets are therefore assessing the possibility of a more divided political environment, greater congressional oversight and changes to policy expectations around technology, energy, healthcare, government spending and regulation.
Equity futures have weakened as the results have come in.
Treasury yields have moved lower.
The Dollar has softened.
Gold has received support.
Bitcoin remains under pressure near the mid-$70,000 region.
Meanwhile, AMD has delivered one of the strongest AI-related earnings reports of the season.
Revenue reached approximately $13.4 billion, while data-center revenue almost doubled from a year earlier.
AMD also guided toward approximately $17 billion of fourth-quarter revenue.
That provides evidence that demand for AI infrastructure remains strong even as investors become more cautious about valuations and capital expenditure.
Today therefore becomes a major test of whether strong US labour demand can keep Fed tightening expectations alive while political uncertainty, lower Oil and weaker risk sentiment pull Treasury yields and the Dollar in the opposite direction.
❓ Question of the Day
Will strong US labour demand force the Fed to hike again even if falling Oil and weaker markets reduce inflation pressure?
Today’s ADP employment and ISM Services reports provide the next major clues before Friday’s Nonfarm Payrolls.

Tuesday Recap: JOLTS Strengthens the Fed Case
US Job Openings Surprise Higher
September JOLTS Job Openings increased to approximately 7.52 million.
The previous reading was around 7.08 million.
Hires were little changed at approximately 5.4 million.
Total separations were also little changed at about 5.3 million.
Quits increased to approximately 3.4 million.
Layoffs and discharges remained near 1.6 million.
The rise in openings is important because it suggests US employers still have substantial demand for labour.
That can keep wages supported.
And strong wage growth can keep services inflation sticky.
Combined with strong GDP, hot PCE and Monday’s ISM Manufacturing report, JOLTS keeps another Fed hike firmly on the table.
Fed December Hike Risk Remains High
Interest-rate markets continue to assign a high probability to another 25-basis-point Fed increase at the December meeting.
Current pricing is around the low-to-upper 70% region depending on the futures snapshot.
That would take the target range from 3.75%–4.00% to 4.00%–4.25%.
The logic is straightforward.
GDP is growing strongly.
PCE inflation remains well above the 2% target.
Manufacturing is expanding.
Job openings remain elevated.
And unemployment remains relatively low.
Today, ADP and ISM Services will determine whether that hawkish labour-and-growth narrative becomes even stronger.
🇺🇸 US Elections Reshape the Market Outlook
US midterm results have become one of today’s largest market drivers.
Democrats are projected to regain control of the House of Representatives.
Several Senate races remain unresolved.
Democrats have already recorded important Senate gains, including flips in North Carolina and South Carolina, while other battleground races remain extremely competitive.
The immediate market issue is not political preference.
It is the possibility of a change in the policy environment.
Markets are considering what a divided or Democratic-controlled Congress could mean for:
- Government spending
- Fiscal deficits
- Tax policy
- AI and data-center regulation
- Energy policy
- Healthcare
- Cryptocurrency regulation
- Corporate oversight
- Trade policy
Technology stocks are particularly sensitive because AI data centres have become increasingly politically controversial due to their electricity consumption, financing requirements and local infrastructure demands.
That explains why Nasdaq futures have reacted more negatively than some other major indices.
For Forex traders, the most important election transmission channels remain Treasury yields, equity volatility and expectations for future fiscal policy.
💻 AMD Delivers a Strong AI Earnings Signal
AMD reported a record third quarter.
Revenue reached approximately $13.4 billion, representing 45% year-on-year growth.
Non-GAAP earnings per share reached approximately $2.09.
The company’s data-center division generated a record $8.5 billion in revenue.
That was up approximately 97% year-on-year.
Demand for EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs remained strong.
AMD also expects fourth-quarter revenue of approximately $17 billion, plus or minus 3%.
That represents another substantial increase.
The results are significant because the market has spent the last week questioning whether the enormous AI infrastructure boom is financially sustainable.
AMD’s numbers suggest that underlying demand for AI compute remains very strong.
But that does not completely solve the valuation problem.
Investors are still asking whether the entire AI ecosystem can generate returns high enough to justify current valuations and investment spending.
AMD therefore provides evidence that AI demand is real, but election-driven regulatory risk and high valuations may continue limiting the broader Nasdaq recovery.
🇳🇿 New Zealand Unemployment Rises to 5.7%
New Zealand’s unemployment rate increased to 5.7% in the third quarter from 5.6%.
Employment fell approximately 0.1% quarter-on-quarter.
The employment rate declined to 66.4%.
Labour-force participation slipped to 70.4%.
Annual wage inflation slowed to approximately 2.1%.
These figures suggest that New Zealand’s labour market is cooling.
That is important after the Reserve Bank of New Zealand unexpectedly held rates last week.
Three policymakers had preferred another rate increase.
Today’s labour report weakens the argument for immediate additional tightening because domestic wage and employment pressures are clearly losing momentum.
NZD/USD remains vulnerable around the upper-0.55 area as markets balance weaker employment against the still-hawkish split inside the RBNZ.
🇨🇳 China Services Growth Slows
China’s private-sector Services PMI fell to 50.8 in October from 51.6.
A reading above 50 still indicates expansion.
But this was the weakest rate of services growth since July.
Business confidence also weakened.
Input prices increased at their fastest pace in five months.
Companies continued hiring, but competition remained intense and selling prices declined.
For global markets, the report matters because China remains a major driver of commodity demand and Asian risk sentiment.
Slower Chinese services activity creates another headwind for the Australian and New Zealand Dollars even as the RBA remains hawkish.
🇦🇺 RBA Hike: Why the Australian Dollar Remains Weak
The Reserve Bank of Australia raised rates to 4.85% yesterday.
But AUD/USD has failed to produce a major bullish breakout.
There are several reasons.
First, the hike had already been heavily priced.
Second, the 6–3 vote showed increasing disagreement inside the RBA.
Third, Governor Michele Bullock emphasized that policy would now depend on incoming data.
Fourth, falling Oil prices reduce some imported inflation pressure.
And finally, softer Chinese activity is a negative external factor for Australia.
Bullock also emphasized that the RBA is primarily tightening because of domestic capacity pressures, rather than simply responding to global Oil prices.
AUD/USD therefore needs stronger evidence of another future RBA hike before the 4.85% decision can produce a sustained currency rally.
🛢️ Oil Holds Below $100
WTI remains close to approximately $95–$96 per barrel.
Brent is trading around the low-$100 region.
That follows Monday’s dramatic decline as markets reduced part of the geopolitical risk premium.
Diplomatic efforts involving the United States, Iran and regional mediators continue.
However, officials have warned that significant differences remain.
This makes Oil extremely headline-sensitive.
The broader macro significance is enormous.
If WTI remains below $100 for several weeks, headline inflation could begin receiving meaningful relief.
Transportation costs could fall.
Manufacturing input costs could decline.
Consumer inflation expectations could ease.
And central banks could become less aggressive.
But a renewed geopolitical escalation could reverse those effects rapidly.
Today, EIA crude inventories provide the next fundamental Oil catalyst alongside geopolitical headlines.
📉 Treasury Yields: Strong JOLTS Versus Election Risk
The US 10-year Treasury yield is trading around 4.9%.
This creates one of today’s most important contradictions.
Strong JOLTS should normally push yields higher because it strengthens the case for Fed tightening.
But election uncertainty and weaker equity futures are increasing demand for safe-haven bonds.
Falling Oil also lowers part of the inflation premium embedded in long-term yields.
The result is a tug-of-war between:
- Strong labour demand
- High services inflation
- Fed-hike expectations
- Lower Oil
- Election uncertainty
- Safe-haven demand
The 5% level remains the critical threshold. A renewed move above it would increase pressure on Gold, Bitcoin and technology shares.
💵 US Dollar: Why It Is Falling Despite Strong JOLTS
The Dollar Index has slipped toward approximately 101.7.
That may appear unusual given the strength of the JOLTS report.
But currency markets trade relative expectations, not individual economic releases.
Treasury yields have softened.
Election results have increased political uncertainty.
The Euro and Swiss Franc have benefited from defensive flows.
And falling Oil reduces part of the inflation-driven demand for higher US rates.
The Dollar’s fundamental backdrop remains relatively strong, however.
A strong ADP report followed by another high ISM Services Prices Index could quickly restore upward momentum.
Today’s labour and services data will therefore determine whether the Dollar’s overnight weakness is temporary or the beginning of a deeper correction.
🇪🇺 Eurozone CPI: Another Inflation Test for the ECB
Eurozone flash inflation is released during the European session.
Headline CPI is expected to increase toward approximately 4.0% year-on-year from 3.8%.
Core CPI is expected near 2.5%.
The ECB held rates last week.
But policymakers warned that high energy prices remain an upside inflation risk.
A hotter-than-expected inflation reading would strengthen expectations that another ECB hike may be necessary.
That could provide further support for EUR/USD.
A softer reading would reinforce the ECB’s decision to remain patient.
For EUR/USD, today’s market therefore combines Eurozone inflation risk with US labour data and election-driven Dollar volatility.
💼 ADP Employment: The Second Labour-Market Test
October ADP private employment arrives at 8:15 a.m. ET.
Markets expect approximately 65,000–70,000 new private-sector jobs.
September’s reading was approximately 90,000.
ADP is not always a reliable predictor of Nonfarm Payrolls.
But today’s report matters because it follows yesterday’s stronger JOLTS data.
A strong ADP print would create a consistent labour-market message.
That would make Friday’s NFP even more important.
A weak ADP reading would create a conflict between job openings and actual payroll growth.
The Dollar, Gold and Treasury yields could react sharply if ADP produces a major surprise.
🔥 ISM Services May Matter Even More Than ADP
US ISM Services arrives at 10:00 a.m. ET.
The headline index is expected around 54.8, almost unchanged from 54.9.
But the headline is not the only number traders should watch.
The Prices Index is particularly important.
It previously stood near 74.0.
That is extremely elevated.
Services inflation is one of the hardest parts of the inflation problem for the Federal Reserve to control.
If the Prices Index remains above 70 while activity stays strong, policymakers may have little reason to become more dovish.
The employment component will also matter because Friday’s NFP report is approaching.
Strong activity + high prices + strong employment would be the most hawkish possible combination for the Fed.
Today’s Three Main US Data Scenarios
🔥 Strong ADP + Strong ISM
December Fed-hike expectations rise. Dollar and yields could recover while Gold, Bitcoin and rate-sensitive stocks face renewed pressure.
⚖️ Mixed Data
Markets remain focused on Friday’s NFP. Election headlines and Oil could dominate short-term price action instead.
🌿 Weak ADP + Weak ISM
Fed-hike pricing could fall, Treasury yields could decline and the Dollar could weaken further. Gold may benefit, while stocks could react positively unless the data signal a severe growth slowdown.

🇪🇺 EUR/USD: Inflation and Dollar Weakness Support the Euro
EUR/USD has pushed toward the low-1.12 area.
The move is being supported by a softer Dollar and expectations that Eurozone inflation could remain elevated.
If CPI approaches 4%, the ECB may find it difficult to remain on hold indefinitely.
Support: 1.1180 / 1.1140 | Resistance: 1.1250 / 1.1300
🇬🇧 GBP/USD: BoE Decision Approaches
GBP/USD is trading around the mid-1.34 region.
The Pound is benefiting from Dollar weakness but faces a major domestic catalyst tomorrow.
The Bank of England will decide whether inflation remains high enough to justify another rate increase.
Today’s UK Services PMI will provide one final economic signal ahead of that decision.
Support: 1.3380 / 1.3330 | Resistance: 1.3480 / 1.3530
🇦🇺 AUD/USD: Rate Hike Fails to Produce Strong Rally
AUD/USD remains below 0.7000 despite the RBA’s move to 4.85%.
The currency is being held back by weaker China data, risk aversion and expectations that the RBA may now pause to assess the impact of previous tightening.
Support: 0.6940 / 0.6900 | Resistance: 0.7000 / 0.7040
🇳🇿 NZD/USD: Higher Unemployment Pressures the Kiwi
NZD/USD has slipped toward approximately 0.559.
The rise in unemployment to 5.7% and slower wage inflation reduce pressure on the RBNZ to tighten quickly.
Support: 0.5560 / 0.5520 | Resistance: 0.5620 / 0.5660
🇨🇦 USD/CAD: Falling Oil Remains the Main Risk
The Canadian Dollar remains caught between last week’s Bank of Canada hike and the sharp decline in Oil.
Lower crude prices weaken Canada’s terms of trade and reduce one of the Canadian Dollar’s traditional sources of support.
Support: 1.3950 / 1.3900 | Resistance: 1.4040 / 1.4100
🇯🇵 USD/JPY: Treasury Yields Remain the Key Driver
USD/JPY is trading close to 158.
Lower Treasury yields provide some support to the Yen.
However, the large interest-rate gap between the US and Japan remains supportive for USD/JPY.
Bank of Japan meeting minutes are due later in the session and may provide further insight into the Bank’s willingness to tighten again.
Support: 157.70 / 157.00 | Resistance: 158.80 / 159.50
🇨🇭 USD/CHF: Franc Gains as Defensive Demand Returns
The Swiss Franc has strengthened as election uncertainty and equity volatility increase demand for defensive currencies.
Swiss inflation also accelerated recently, reducing pressure on the SNB to consider easier policy.
Support: 0.8140 / 0.8100 | Resistance: 0.8220 / 0.8260
🥇 Gold: Election Risk and Lower Yields Offer Support
Gold is trading around the $3,930–$3,950 region.
The metal is receiving support from several sources.
The Dollar is softer.
Treasury yields have eased.
Oil is below $100.
US political uncertainty has increased.
And equity futures are under pressure.
But strong US labour data remain a major obstacle.
If ADP and ISM Services confirm that the economy remains strong, Treasury yields could quickly recover.
Support: $3,900 / $3,850 | Resistance: $3,975 / $4,025
🥈 Silver: $50 Remains the Immediate Pivot
Silver is trading close to $50.
The metal receives support from lower yields but remains more exposed than Gold to concerns about global industrial growth.
China’s softer services data and weaker risk appetite therefore matter.
Support: $49 / $48 | Resistance: $51 / $52.50
₿ Bitcoin Falls Back Toward $76K
Bitcoin remains one of the weakest major risk assets.
BTC is trading around $76K–$77K.
Election uncertainty is weighing on crypto because future congressional control could materially affect regulation and digital-asset legislation.
The market is also still recovering from last week’s Binance security concerns.
Lower Treasury yields would normally support Bitcoin.
But crypto-specific and political risks are currently limiting that benefit.
Support: $76K / $74.5K | Resistance: $78.5K / $80K
📈 US Stock Market Outlook
Nasdaq 100
Technology stocks rebounded Tuesday, but election results have renewed selling pressure in futures.
AMD’s earnings provide fundamental support for the AI infrastructure story.
However, regulatory and political uncertainty surrounding data centers may create another valuation headwind.
Support: 27,600 / 27,200 | Resistance: 28,400 / 28,800
S&P 500
The S&P 500 gained 0.36% Tuesday to approximately 7,569.
Election uncertainty may dominate early Wednesday trade.
The key issue is whether weakness remains concentrated in technology or spreads across the broader market.
Support: 7,500 / 7,420 | Resistance: 7,600 / 7,680
US30
The Dow fell modestly Tuesday while technology shares outperformed.
A more divided political environment could create sector rotation rather than a uniform market reaction.
Support: 51,400 / 51,000 | Resistance: 52,200 / 52,800

🔗 The Correlations That Matter Today
Strong labour data → Fed hike probability ↑ → yields and Dollar ↑
This remains the traditional macro relationship.
Falling Oil → inflation expectations ↓ → long-term yields ↓
This is currently offsetting some of the hawkish US data.
Election uncertainty → equity volatility ↑ → Treasury demand ↑
Safe-haven bond demand can push yields lower even when US economic data remain strong.
Lower yields + softer Dollar → Gold support ↑
Gold benefits when the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset falls.
Strong AMD earnings → AI demand confidence ↑
But political and regulatory uncertainty can still prevent the Nasdaq from fully benefiting from strong company fundamentals.
🔭 What Comes Next?
Today’s ADP and ISM Services reports are not the final word on the US labour market.
Thursday brings:
- Bank of England policy decision
- US productivity
- Unit labour costs
- Weekly jobless claims
Friday then brings the week’s most important event:
US Nonfarm Payrolls, unemployment and average hourly earnings.
The labour-market sequence now looks increasingly important because JOLTS has already surprised to the upside.
If ADP, ISM employment and NFP all confirm strength, December Fed tightening expectations could move significantly higher.

🎯 TraderFactor Bottom Line
US labour market:
JOLTS remains surprisingly strong, keeping December Fed tightening firmly in play.
US elections:
Democrats are projected to regain control of the House while the Senate remains unresolved, adding policy and regulatory uncertainty.
Oil:
WTI below $100 continues to reduce part of the global inflation premium.
Treasuries:
Safe-haven demand and lower Oil are offsetting strong US economic data.
Dollar:
DXY is softer near 101.7 despite the strong JOLTS report.
Gold:
Bullion is attempting to stabilise as yields and the Dollar soften.
Technology:
AMD’s record data-center quarter confirms strong AI demand, but election and valuation risks remain.
Bitcoin:
BTC remains vulnerable below $80K as political and liquidity risks continue.
New Zealand:
Rising unemployment weakens the case for immediate RBNZ tightening.
China:
Services growth is still positive but has slowed to its weakest level since July.
Today’s market is being pulled in two directions: strong US labour demand supports higher interest rates, while lower Oil, election uncertainty and defensive bond buying are pushing yields and the Dollar lower. ADP and ISM Services will determine which side gains control before Friday’s NFP.
